The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 6-2 to the No. 6-ranked Alberta Golden Bears at the Clare Drake Arena on Friday night.
Ian McNulty and
Kirk Bear (pictured) scored for Regina, but Jamie Crooks had two goals to lead the Golden Bears to the home-ice win. Luke Philp, Riley Kieser, Jayden Hart and Cole Linaker added singles for Alberta, while Stephane Legault had three assists and Tyson Baillie earned two helpers.
Andy Desautels was peppered by shots, making 39 saves in the loss. Luke Siemens and Kenny Cameron combined to stop 12 Cougar shots after Siemens left the game in the second after colliding with a teammate.
Alberta came out firing, as Hart scored just 37 seconds into the contest. Kieser netted a shorthanded marker near the midpoint of the period and McNulty scored less than a minute later on the same powerplay.
Dillan McCombie and
Landon Peel assisted on McNulty's third goal in his last two games.
Philp scored the team's lone marker in the second period before Bear opened the scoring in the third off an assist from
Stephen Langford. Crooks scored both of his goals back-to-back and Linaker scored his third of the season shortly after.
The Cougars (3-15-1) and Golden Bears will square off again on Saturday evening, with puck drop set for 6 p.m. local time.
