The University of Regina men's hockey time will be on home ice for the first time in 2017 this weekend, as the Cougars will host No. 8-ranked Mount Royal University for a weekend series.
Regina (3-16-1) is currently on an eight-game losing streak after being swept by Alberta last weekend in Edmonton.
Ian McNulty (pictured) and
Kirk Bear had goals in a 6-2 loss on Friday, and
Stephen Langford and
Logan Harland scored in a 5-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon.
Andy Desautels made 39 saves on Friday night and
Dawson MacAuley stopped 35 shots on Saturday.
Tristan Frei and
Cody Fowlie lead the Cougars in points as Frei has five goals and seven assists and Fowlie has four goals and eight helpers. McNulty has posted five goals and 10 points in 20 games.
Desautels has started 13 games in net for Regina, and is responsible for all three Cougar wins. MacAuley has made seven appearances in goal and
Mitch Kilgore has played in five games.
Connor Rankin is Canada West's leading scorer by a considerable margin, powering the MRU offence with 14 goals and 14 assists in 18 games. Cam Maclise is second on Mount Royal with 11 goals and 11 helpers, while rookie Jamal Watson also has double figure goals scored with 10.
Colin Cooper has seen the majority of action in net for MRU, sporting a 10-5-0 record coming into the weekend. The second-year netminder has a 2.33 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage with two shutouts.
MRU (13-6-1) comes into the weekend tied for second place in Canada West, five points back of Saskatchewan for first and even with Alberta in the second spot.
Regina and MRU met in November for a pair of games in Calgary, with MRU coming away with 7-0 and 6-2 wins. McNulty and
Tyler Bell had goals for the Cougars.
