The University of Regina women's hockey team is ready for their first weekend on the road in the calendar year, as the Cougars will head west to Calgary to take on Mount Royal University.
Regina (9-9-2-0) was swept by Alberta last weekend, dropping 3-1 and 2-0 decisions to the second-place Pandas.
Emma Waldenberger scored in Friday night's game, which saw
Morgan Baker make 24 saves in net.
Jane Kish (pictured) stopped 29 shots in Saturday afternoon's rematch.
The Cougars currently sit just two points back of Saskatchewan in the Canada West standings for fourth place and a home playoff series. Mount Royal enters the weekend six points back of the Cougars, occupying the sixth and final playoff spot.
Jaycee Magwood is tied for the conference lead in points, after assisting on Waldenberger's goal on Friday night. The second-year skater and reigning Canada West Rookie of the Year has piled up 11 goals and 10 assists in 20 games.
Kylie Gavelin and
Kylee Kupper are the next Cougars on the list, both of whom have six goals and seven assists.
Bailey Braden (5G, 7A) and Waldenberger (5G, 6A) are also in double figures in points.
Kish has made 15 starts in net, earning eight wins and two shutouts. The second-year netminder has a 2.43 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. Baker, a rookie out of Kincardine, Ont., has three wins to her credit to go along with a 1.99 GAA and .908 save percentage.
Sarah Weninger is MRU's top scorer with nine goals and 13 points. Rookies Tianna Ko and Nicollette Seper are next on the scoring list with 11 and eight points, respectively.
Emma Pincott has been the team's starting goaltender on most nights, posting four wins in 13 starts. Pincott has a 2.17 GAA and stops pucks at a .917 clip, while rookie Zoe DeBeauville has hit marks of 2.04 and .927 in eight appearances.
The Cougars opened the 2016-17 regular season against MRU back in October, a matchup which saw the Cougars take 4-1 and 3-1 wins over the visitors.
