The University of Regina's women's volleyball team wasn't able to solve the Iuliia Pakhomenko riddle on Saturday as Thompson Rivers had a straight-sets victory over the Cougars at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C.
Pakhomenko, TRU's All-Canadian outside hitter, had 21 kills and just two errors on 32 attacks to finish with a .594 hitting percentage in the win.
The Cougars held a 22-18 lead in the first set, but a run by Thompson Rivers set the tone for the rest of the match. TRU reeled off five straight points to take the lead, then got back-to-back kills from Pakhomenko to give the WolfPack a 26-24 win in the first.
Thompson Rivers hit .500 as a team in a dominating 25-10 win in the second set, then closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the third.
Pakhomenko finished with 21 of Thompson Rivers' 33 kills in the match, with no other WolfPack player collecting more than four. Abby Spratt finished with 22 assists for TRU, while libero Kendra Finch finished with a team-leading nine digs.
Diana Lumbala led the Cougars (3-15) with 10 kills, while libero
Taylor Ungar had a match-high 10 digs.
The Cougars will play their final home matches of the season this Friday and Saturday against MacEwan. After that, it'll be back-to-back away weekends for the U of R as they'll take on UBC and Calgary to close out the conference schedule.
