The University of Regina's women's basketball team won its sixth consecutive non-conference game and improved to 2-0 at the Cougar Classic after edging Saskatchewan by a 74-73 score on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The visiting Huskies led by 16 at one point in the second quarter, but the Cougars brought the deficit down to nine at halftime and the third belonged to the home side. Regina went on a 16-2 run after halftime, turning what had been a seven-point Huskies lead into a seven-point U of R advantage. Though the Cougars led the entire fourth quarter, it was a one-possession game for the final two minutes with a late layup by
Kyanna Giles – assisted by her sister
Kyia Giles – with 44 seconds to go turned out to be the winning basket.

Saskatchewan got a layup from Sabine Dukate with seven seconds left to get to within one, but the Cougars were able to successfully inbound the ball twice to seal the win.

Michaela Kleisinger had a team-high 16 points for the Cougars, going 6-for-8 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range.
Kyanna Giles (pictured) added 14 points, while
Charlotte Kot scored 11 and
Sara Hubenig had a 10-point night. Kot also tied for the game high with six rebounds, while
Kyia Giles had a team-leading four assists.

Sabine Dukate led Saskatchewan in both points (17) and assists (5).

Following the Cougar win, Windsor defeated Brandon by a 69-57 margin as the Lancers finish with a 2-1 record at the tournament. The Cougar Classic will wrap up on Sunday afternoon (1:00) with a game featuring the host Cougars and Brandon.
