Top-ranked Golden Bears in town to tangle with Cougars

The University of Regina men's hockey team returns home this weekend for a matchup with the No. 1-ranked Alberta Golden Bears.

Alberta enters the weekend atop the Canada West standings with an unblemished 6-0-0 record. The Cougars are coming off a tough weekend at UBC, losing both games and dropping to 1-4-1 on the season. The Golden Bears disposed of Calgary a weekend ago in a home-and-home set, taking 7-5 and 3-2 wins against the Dinos.

Stacking Up
Alberta is second in Canada West with 31 goals so far, while Regina has netted 16 markers. The Cougars boast the best powerplay in the conference, cashing in on 29% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Golden Bears are the best in Canada West at killing penalties, with a success rate of 89% so far.

Leading the Charge
Ian McNulty has the most points for the Cougars through three weekends, with two goals and five assists to his credit. Brody Luhning has assisted on six Cougar goals and rookie Zak Zborosky has chipped in with three goals and three assists.

Alberta has the three of the top four setup men in the conference, led by Luke Philp who has tallied a whopping 12 assists. Stephane Legault and Trevor Cox are also near the top of the Canada West scoring list with seven helpers each.

Between the Pipes
Michael Herringer has started every game for the Cougars this season, leading the conference in saves and minutes played while posting a 4.97 goals-against average and a .866 save percentage.

Zack Sawchenko and Brendan Burke have each made three starts for Alberta, with Sawchenko leading Canada West with a 1.34 goals-against average. The rookie goaltender is also second in the conference with a .937 save percentage. Burke has hit marks of 2.33 and .909
