Box Score The University of Regina's women's volleyball team pushed Winnipeg to the brink with wins in the second and the third sets to go up 2-1 in the match, but the Wesmen came back with victories in both the fourth and the fifth to hold home court at the Duckworth Centre on Friday night.
Â
After Winnipeg (1-2) opened up the match with a 25-22 win, the Cougars responded immediately with a massive 25-9 victory in the second. The visitors continued the momentum with a 25-20 win in the third set, only to have the Wesmen pull out a 26-24 win in the fourth to push the match to a deciding set.
Â
Winnipeg looked like it was going to cruise to victory in the fifth set after a big run after the side switch. The Wesmen opened up a 14-10 lead, but the Cougars went on a big run with
Diana Lumbala serving and brought the score level at 14-14. But the U of R couldn't complete the comeback – Winnipeg collected the next point to put an end to the Cougar run, then clinched the match after an attack by Regina's
Brooklyn Reynolds was just wide.
Â
The Cougars (0-3) will get another crack at Winnipeg on Saturday night in Winnipeg as the two teams will meet for the fifth time already this season. First serve is scheduled for 6:45 PM (CDT) following the men's match.
