The University of Regina women's hockey team fell 4-0 to the No. 6-ranked Manitoba Bisons at Wayne Fleming Arena on Friday night.
Jordyn Zacharias had two goals and rookie goaltender Lauren Taraschuk stopped 20 shots for the shutout. Sheridan Oswald and Lauryn Keen each had a goal and an assist for the Bisons.
Zacharias opened the scoring just 27 seconds in, picking up a loose puck and beating Morgan Baker five hole. The third-year forward picked up her second of the night right at the start of the second period, this time taking 28 seconds to find the net. Keen added another at the 16:41 mark of the second and Oswald sealed the deal at 14:11 of the third.
The Cougars thought they had broken Taraschuk's shutout bid on the powerplay in the third, as Emma Waldenberger jammed a wraparound in, but the referees concluded that the whistle had sounded before the puck crossed the line.
Baker made 31 saves in the loss as the Cougars fall to 4-3-1-1
The Cougars and Bisons will battle again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
