Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars skate to 3-2 win over ninth-ranked Dinos

The University of Regina men's hockey team clawed its way to a 3-2 win over the No. 9-ranked Calgary Dinos at the Father David Bauer Arena on Friday night.

Cody Fowlie, Tristan Frei and Zach McPhee scored for the Cougars, who improve to 2-7-1. Mitch Cook and Chris Rauckman replied for the Dinos (5-3-2).

Dawson MacAuley got the start and made 14 saves in the first period but didn't return for the second after suffering an injury. Michael Herringer ended up getting the win in net, stopping 20 of 22 shots. Matthew Greenfield made 31 saves for Calgary.

Fowlie opened the scoring about four and a half minutes into the contest, netting his fifth off a beautiful assist from Zak Zborosky. Brody Luhning also picked up a helper, his 11th of the young season. The Dinos answered at the 8:37 mark of the second, as Cook notched his first of the season.

Regina went back on top early in the second period, with Frei scoring his third on the powerplay by redirecting a Landon Peel point shot. Calgary answered again as Rauckman was able to beat Herringer on a shorthanded effort, but McPhee scored his first of the season at the 12:31 mark of the final frame for the game winner. Ben Duperreault and Isaac Schacher set up McPhee and the Cougars held off the Dino attack late to take the 3-2 decision.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday afternoon, with puck drop set for 2 p.m. local time.
