TEAM OVERVIEWS
REGINA – The Cougars have taken a piece out of the conference's elite for two consecutive weekends now after outlasting No. 5-ranked Mount Royal for a five-set win last Saturday. That win came after the Cougars defeated then-No. 1 Alberta on Nov. 3 at the CKHS, giving the U of R two victories over ranked opposition in their last four matches. The Cougars now hold a 3-5 record and sit in ninth place in the Canada West standings, just out of the eight-team playoff picture as they're now through the first third of the conference schedule. Fourth-year libero Taylor Ungar is again among the conference leaders in digs, ranking second in Canada West with 126 and fourth with an average of 3.82 digs per set.

BRANDON – The Bobcats' five-match winning streak came to an end last weekend with a pair of home losses to Trinity Western, dropping their record to 5-3 on the season. Brandon had won once at Manitoba, twice at home over Saskatchewan, and two at Thompson Rivers before running into the Spartans. BU's player to watch is fourth-year outside hitter Nikala Majewski, who enters the weekend as Canada West's leader in kills (107) and is ranked fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.34). Brandon also has three other players ranked in the top five in various Canada West statistical categories, including Michelle Egger (second with 0.78 service aces per set), Sami Love (fourth with 1.2 blocks per set), and Caitlin Le (fifth with 102 digs).

Brandon holds a 16-10 edge in the 26 Canada West matches played between the two teams since the Bobcats started their volleyball programs prior to the 2005-06 season, though the Cougars are 2-0 in the postseason against their rivals to the east after sweeping them in the 2010 Canada West quarterfinals. The teams met once in non-conference play this season, with the Cougars taking a four-set win over Brandon in pool play at the University of Regina Fall Invitational at the CKHS back on Sept. 23.
