The University of Regina women's hockey team is set to close out the 2017 half of the Canada West season this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Regina (5-7-1-1) enters the weekend in fifth place in the conference while Saskatchewan is a spot ahead at 8-5-0-1.
Regina Roundup
The Cougars split on the road against Lethbridge last weekend, snapping a five-game skid with a 1-0 win on Friday but dropping a 3-2 decision on Saturday.
Emma Waldenberger scored the winner in Game 1 while
Jane Kish stopped all 16 shots for the shutout.
Jordan Kulbida and
Tamara McVannel found the net on Saturday.
Jaycee Magwood leads the team in points, with four goals and four assists. Waldenberger, Kulbida and
Bailey Braden all have seven points while McVannel and
Merissa Zerr have six apiece.
Kish has made nine appearances in net for Regina, posting a 1.42 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.
Morgan Baker has seen action in five games with marks of 3.43 and .893.
Meet the Huskies
Saskatchewan is also coming off a split, losing 2-0 to last-place Mount Royal on Friday night but rebounding for a 2-0 win at home on Saturday.
Leading the charge for Saskatchewan is fourth-year forward Kaitlin Willoughby with four goals and five assists. Emily Upgang has eight points while Bailee Bourassa has chipped in with six.
Three goalies have all made starts in goal for the Huskies, as Jessica Vance and Chloe Marshall have each made five appearances and Jasey Book has made four. Vance has the best save percentage of the three with a .945 rate and her and Marshall each a 1.41 GAA.
Tale of the Tape
Both the Cougars and Huskies have 25 goals as a team but Saskatchewan is second in the conference with just 21 allowed, compared to 30 for the Cougars.
This weekend marks the first weekend for either team in which they will face off against a team for the second series of their Canada West schedule. The Cougars and Huskies opened the conference schedule in early October with a home-and-home set, with both team winning in the other's rink. The Cougars took a 3-2 win at Rutherford Rink to kick off the season but the Huskies replied with a 4-3 triumph at The Co-operators Centre.
