The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 9-3 after surrendering five goals in the third period against the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday night.
Jamie Crooks and Luke Philp both had two goals for Alberta, which used five goals in less than six minutes to blow Friday's contest wide open. Clayton Kirichenko, Jason Fram, Graeme Craig, Taylor Cooper and Cole Sanford also lit the lamp for Alberta.
Austin Bourhis, Ben Duperreault and Landon Peel replied for the Cougars, who drop to 3-16-2.
Dawson MacAuley went the distance in net, stopping 41 out of the 50 Alberta shots he faced. Brendan Burke made 15 saves for the win at the other end of the rink.
Bourhis opened the scoring for Regina and the Cougars were within striking distance as Duperreault scored his third of the year to make it 3-2 midway through the second, but four-straight goals and insurance markers from Crooks and Craig led Alberta to its highest-scoring output of the season.
Regina will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon, with a rematch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. local time at Clare Drake Arena.
