Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Golden Bears take 4-2 win to earn sweep

The University of Regina men's hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision at Clare Drake Arena on Saturday evening, as the No. 4-ranked Alberta Golden Bears completed the weekend sweep of Regina.

The star of the show for the Cougars was rookie goaltender Brandon Holtby, who stopped 49 of 53 Alberta shots in his first game as a Cougar. The rookie was peppered with 21 shots in the first period and 16 in both the second and third, but managed to hold the Golden Bears to one goal in the second and off the scoreboard in the third.

Stephane Legault scored twice in the first period and Tyson Baillie also found the net in the opening 20 to give Alberta a 3-0 cushion after the first. Graeme Craig made it 4-0 early in the second but a goal from Corey Kosloski (pictured) with just 10 seconds left in the middle frame put the Cougars on the board. Tyson Predinchuk added his second of the season late in the third, but that was as close as Regina would get.

The Cougars pulled Holtby with just over a minute left and swarmed around the Alberta zone, but Zach Sawchenko was able to hold off the attack. Sawchenko made 18 saves as Alberta improves to 18-3-1 and clinches a Canada West playoff spot.

Regina drops to 3-17-2 with the result, and will be on the road again next weekend for a matchup with the Manitoba Bisons.
