Cougars blanked by MRU in Saturday affair

The University of Regina women's hockey team fell 3-0 to Mount Royal University on Saturday afternoon, as MRU completed the weekend sweep of the Cougars.

Zoe De Beauville earned her second shutout in as many contests, stopping 26 shots to blank the Cougars. MRU scored a goal in each period, with Nicollette Seper scoring in the first, Andrea Sanderson in the second, and Tianna Ko putting the game away on the powerplay in the third period.

Jane Kish made 22 saves for the Cougars, who drop to 6-9-1-2 with the loss. Mount Royal climbs out of the basement of the Canada West standings with the sweep, moving to 4-11-3-0.

Seper opened the scoring with under a minute left in the first period, backhanding a rebound home after a scramble in front of Kish. Sanderson doubled the lead in the second period with a high shot and Ko iced the game midway through the third off a pass from Rachel Piitz.

Regina's scoring drought has now run over three consecutive games and is up to 218:15 of ice time. That marks the longest stretch without a goal for the Cougars since November of 2013.

Regina is on the road again next weekend for a date with the No. 3-ranked UBC Thunderbirds.
