Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Kish steals the show as Cougars take down Lethbridge

Jane Kish made Canada West history on Friday night, setting the conference record for saves in a shutout as the University of Regina women's hockey team took down the Lethbridge Pronghorns 2-0.

Kish stopped 45 shots on the night, beating the old record of 41 saves held by former Cougar Jennifer Schmidt and current Pronghorn Alicia Anderson. Kish made 18 saves in the second period and 22 more in the final frame to pick up her eighth career shutout and tie Schmidt for the most in Cougar history. On the offensive end, Martina Maskova and Jordan Kulbida found the net for Regina as the Cougars improve to 2-1-0 on the season.

Maskova netted a first-period goal by beating Alicia Anderson with a wrap around marker for her first of the season. Kaitlyn Crowe and Nikki Watters-Matthes both picked up assists on what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Kulbida added an insurance marker at the 12:30 mark of the second period, going to the backhand on a nice move around Anderson. Lilla Carpenter-Boesch and Chelsea Hallson set up the goal for their first points of the Canada West season.

Kish took care of business from there, making big saves on Brett Campbell and Alli Borrow in the third period. The fourth-year goaltender's best save of the night came with seven minutes to play, going post-to-post to rob Kenzie Lausberg with the pad.

The Cougars and Pronghorns will square off again on Saturday afternoon with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m. local time.
