Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lerminiaux ties aces record, but Cougars fall to TWU in four

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team lost to Trinity Western in four sets for the second consecutive night on Saturday in Langley.

Saturday's game followed a similar script to Friday's contest, which saw the two teams split the opening two sets before Trinity Western took the third and fourth. The Spartans locked up a 25-19 win in the first set on Saturday, only to have the Cougars come back with a 25-17 win in the second.

But it was all Spartans after that. TWU dominated the third set 25-8, and claimed a 25-20 win in the fourth to clinch the match.

Three different players hit double figures in kills for Trinity Western (2-0) in the win, including Savannah Purdy with 11 and Hilary Howe and Mikaelyn Sych with 10 apiece. Sych also had nine blocks, while Brie King had 32 assists and Emma Gamache had 17 digs.

Jessica Lerminiaux and Diana Lumbala both had 10 kills for the Cougars (0-2). Lerminiaux had service aces on four consecutive points in the first set, finishing with six to tie the U of R record for most in a four-set match.

Satomi Togawa had 27 assists and 10 digs for the Cougars, while Taylor Ungar had a team-leading 13 digs. Brooklyn Reynolds had seven blocks.

The Cougars will now prepare for their home openers next weekend against Winnipeg. Match time is set for 7:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday.
