Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Pronghorns roll to 5-2 win over Cougars

The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 5-2 to the hometown Lethbridge Pronghorns in Canada West action on Friday night.

After surrendering three first-period goals, the Cougars found two markers late in the second period thanks to Cody Fowlie and Tristan Frei, but the comeback fell short as the Pronghorns added two more goals in the third period to cement the win.

Spenser Jensen, Sam McKechnie, Evan Wardley, Brooks Maxwell and Blake Orban were the goal scorers for Lethbridge, as the 'Horns snapped an eight-game skid but were eliminated from playoff contention as Calgary downed Manitoba in other action on Friday night.

After Jensen, McKechnie and Wardley were able to beat Dawson MacAuley in the first period, Fowlie put the Cougars on the board with a deflection for his eighth of the season at the 17:43 mark of the second period. Frei added a powerplay marker with just 16 seconds left in the middle frame, banging home a rebound as Fowlie picked up his second point of the night on the goal.

Maxwell halted the Cougar momentum at the 5:40 mark of the third and a powerplay marker from Orban at 9:21 put the game out of reach.

MacAuley was peppered on Friday night, making 25 saves in the first period alone and 48 in total. Lethbridge netminder Garret Hughson was also busy, stopping 37 Cougar efforts.

Regina falls to 3-22-2 with the loss, and will close the Canada West season on Saturday afternoon with a rematch against the Pronghorns.
