Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars fall 3-1 in Friday night match at UNBC

The University of Regina women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at the hands of the hometown UNBC Timberwolves in Canada West action on Friday night.

First half goals from Paige Payne and Mara McCleary put the T-Wolves up early, and a 53rd minute goal from Sofia Jones all but sealed the deal. The Cougars would get on the board in the 65th minute as Nikita Senko converted a penalty kick for her first goal of the season, but key saves down the stretch from UNBC keeper Brooke Molby kept the visitors from getting any closer.

The Numbers

  • Regina had 13 shots on the match, nine of which were on goal. Sydney Langen was responsible for two of them, while Amou Madol, Jet Davies, Camryn Beaumont, Sally Bachmann and Kyra Vibert also had chances on net.
  • UNBC countered with 14 shots and eight efforts on goal. Payne had five shots, with three on net, while Madison Emmond had four strikes but only one on target. Emmond did add two assists, setting up the final two UNBC markers.
  • Rookie keeper Kylie Bolton (pictured) made five saves in her second start as a Cougar. Molby stopped seven shots for the Wolves.

Next Up

The Cougars (1-2-0) will have Saturday off before looking to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon against the MacEwan Griffins. MacEwan has a 1-1-1 record after playing Saskatchewan to a 1-1 draw on Friday night.

Looking Back

Regina's last meeting against MacEwan came on Sept. 25, 2016 in Edmonton, where the Griffins earned a 1-0 victory.
