Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wright powers Cougars to win over Lethbridge

The University of Regina women's soccer team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 1-0 win over the hometown Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Brianna Wright (pictured) was the hero for the Cougars, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Sydney Langen in the 23rd minute. Kylie Bolton continued her strong play in net, stopping five shots to earn her second-straight clean sheet.

Wright's goal came after a Langen cross was sent into the box but misplayed by Lethbridge keeper Chelsey Galbraith, and Wright was waiting in position to tap it home.

Lethbridge had a good chance to draw even in late in the game, but Bolton made a great save on an effort from Raeleen Vanden Dungen to tip it over the crossbar. The Pronghorns had another opportunity in extra time, but Nicole Stahl was unable to put away a volley attempt.

The Cougars improve to 2-4-1 with the win, passing Saskatchewan for fifth place in the Canada West standings.

Regina and Lethbridge both took 11 shots, with three of the Cougar efforts hitting their target and five Pronghorns shots landing on goal.

The Cougars will make the short trip to Calgary for a Sunday afternoon match against the Calgary Dinos. Calgary has a 6-1-0 record after thumping Saskatchewan 4-0 on Saturday.
