Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Ganser scores twice as Pandas blank Cougars

The No. 4-ranked Alberta Pandas shut out the University of Regina women's hockey team on Friday night, taking a 5-0 victory on home ice at the Clare Drake Arena.

Kennedy Ganser had two goals for the home team, with Kelsey Tangjerd, Abby Benning and Autumn MacDougall also finding the net. Kirsten Chamberlin made 17 saves for her fifth shutout of the Canada West season as the Pandas improve to 14-5-4-0. Regina drops to 7-11-2-3, falling to sixth place in the conference playoff hunt.

Morgan Baker started the game but was pulled in favour of Jane Kish after allowing five goals on 24 shots through two periods. Kish stopped 12 shots in relief in the third period.

Tangjerd deflected a shot in the first period, and Benning doubled up on the lead with a blocker-side point shot five minutes later. MacDougall beat Baker with a backhand midway through the second period, and Ganser scored consecutive goals late in the frame to push the lead to 5-0.

The Cougars finished the night 0-for-4 on the powerplay, while Alberta converted one of their seven opportunities with the advantage.

The two teams will battle again on Saturday afternoon, with game time set for 2 p.m. local time.
