Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late tip-in gives Winnipeg win, weekend split with Cougars

The University of Regina's men's basketball team suffered just its fifth loss of the Canada West schedule on Saturday night after falling 91-89 to Winnipeg at the Duckworth Centre.

Winnipeg's Adam Benrabah tipped in a rebound with just one-tenth of a second left in the fourth to give the Wesmen the win.

The Cougars trailed by 11 at one point in the fourth, but came all the way back and tied it with 15 seconds left on a Myles Hamilton three-pointer from the top of the arc. It looked for a second like the Cougars would play an overtime game for the second consecutive weekend after Narcisse Ambanza's pull-up jumper from the top of the key hit rim on the ensuing Wesmen possession, but Benrabah was there to give Winnipeg the win.

Ambanza finished with a big double-double for Winnipeg, which improves to 12-6 on the year. He collected a game-high 24 points and also led all players in both rebounds (11) and assists (7). Three other Wesmen hit double figures in scoring, including Sean Tarver, Will Sesay, and Joseph Medrano with 14, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

The Cougars, who fall to 13-5 with the setback, were led by Hamilton's 22-point effort. Greishe Clerjuste added 18 points, while Samuel Hillis scored 15 and pulled down eight rebounds.

The Cougars will now prepare for their final weekend of the Canada West schedule as they'll host Saskatchewan next Friday and Saturday in what will not only be a matchup between traditional rivals, but also one with massive postseason implications.

NOTES: As of immediately following the game, the Cougars have a .5464 RPI and rank fifth in Canada West in that category ... RPI will be used to seed the conference's 12 postseason teams after the conclusion of the conference schedule next weekend.
