The University of Regina's women's basketball team finished with a 1-2 record at the Cougar Classic after a 71-55 loss to Lethbridge on Sunday afternoon.

It was a tight game until midway through the third quarter, when Lethbridge scored 10 consecutive points to turn what had been a tie game into a double-digit advantage. The Pronghorns went on another 10-0 run early in the fourth and led comfortably the rest of the way.

While the Cougars owned a 56-43 advantage on the glass, turnovers proved to be their undoing. Lethbridge turned 19 Regina turnovers into 23 points, while the Cougars only scored six points off the Pronghorns' six turnovers.

Faith Reid led the Cougars with a game-high 17 points, while Macaela Crone added eight points and led all players with 12 rebounds.

Jessica Zarowny had a team-high 13 points for Lethbridge while Asnate Fomina finished with 12 points, seven assists, and seven steals in the win. Amy Mazutinec was just one point shy of a double-double, ending up with nine points and a team-leading 11 rebounds for the Pronghorns.

The Cougars will host the 2019 Cougar Thanksgiving Invitational next weekend at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. The non-conference tournament begins with a Friday afternoon doubleheader with the Cougars set to face Alberta (2:00) and Saskatchewan and New Brunswick (4:00) to follow.
