The Alberta Pandas improved to 7-2 on Friday night after defeating the Regina Cougars by a 76-57 score in Canada West women's basketball at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Vanessa Wild scored a team-high 16 points for Alberta, while Claire Signatovich added 13 and Brooklyn Legault added 12. Signatovich also led Alberta with eight rebounds.

Emily Dewey (12 points), Michaela Kleisinger (11), and Faith Reid (11) all scored in double figures for the Cougars, who fall to 3-6 on the season with the setback.

Though Regina scored the first two buckets of the game, Alberta scored the next 11 points and led 19-11 after one. The Cougars went on a 12-2 run early in the second quarter to take a three-point lead at 26-23, but Alberta came right back with the next nine points to help them take a 38-32 advantage at halftime. After the break, the Pandas replied to an early Reid three by opening up a double-digit lead that they hung on to for the remainder of the contest.

Alberta, which shot 45% from the field in the win, ended up scoring 19 points in all four quarters. The Pandas attempted only seven three-pointers and finished with a substantial 47-32 edge in rebounding.

The two teams will meet again at the CKHS on Saturday night. Tip-off is again scheduled for 6:00.
