Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Kish sparkles again, McVannel scores in OT as Cougars shut out Manitoba

Jane Kish recorded her second shutout in less than 24 hours and Tamara McVannel scored the overtime winner as the University of Regina's women's hockey team took its second straight 1-0 win over the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg.

With the Cougars on a 4-on-3 power play midway through the extra session, McVannel ripped a shot from the left circle that beat Manitoba goalie Erin Fargey for her second goal of the year and her third career game-winning goal.

Kish was outstanding once again in net for Regina, making 26 saves to notch her 10th career shutout.

"I was happy with the overall effort on the weekend," Cougars head coach Sarah Hodges said. "We competed hard and played two disciplined team games."

Saturday's overtime win gives the Cougars five out of a possible six points from this weekend against Manitoba. Regina (2-6-2-0) is now just four points back of sixth-place Alberta, and those two teams will meet next weekend as the Cougars will play their first home games in nearly a month.

NOTES: Kish becomes the first Cougar goalie to notch a shutout on back-to-back days since Jackie Simonot blanked the Saskatchewan Huskies in both ends of a weekend series back in January of 2006.
