The University of Regina's women's volleyball team has now won seven consecutive matches after taking a four-set road victory over UBC Okanagan on Friday night.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick two-set lead after outlasting the Heat for a 26-24 win in the first and registering a 25-18 win in the second, but UBC Okanagan came back in the third with a 25-21 victory of its own. But the Cougars put the match away in the fourth, jumping out to a four-point lead at the technical timeout and clinching it with an
Ashlee Sandiford kill that gave them a 25-21 win.
Regina improves to 13-8 with the win as the Cougars continue to chase UBC (13-7) for fourth in the Canada West standings and the right to host a conference quarterfinal series later this month.
Jessica Lerminiaux (pictured) had a stellar night for Regina in the win, leading all players with 19 kills while hitting .271 for the match.
Brooklyn Reynolds added nine kills and a match-high nine blocks, while
Taylor Ungar added 20 more digs to her record total and
Satomi Togawa finished with 31 assists and 13 digs.
Ann Richards had 18 kills for UBC Okanagan, which falls to 2-17 with the loss.
With a playoff berth now all but locked up, the Cougars will go for the weekend sweep over UBC Okanagan on Saturday night. First serve is set for 5:00 (PST).
