The University of Regina's men's basketball team's season ended on Friday night with a 97-77 loss to Saskatchewan in Game 2 of a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series.
The Cougars never really recovered from a 14-2 run by Saskatchewan in the second quarter, which turned a one-possession game into a 15-point lead for the home team. Regina was able to cut the lead into single digits in the third, but Saskatchewan finished the quarter with seven straight points and finished off the Cougars with a 13-1 run in the fourth.
Five different players scored in double figures for Saskatchewan, led by Lawrence Moore's 24-point effort. Moore also had six rebounds, four assists, and four steals while Alexander Dewar added 19 points, J.T. Robinson scored 16, Emmanuel Akintunde had 13, and Chan De Ciman scored 12.
Myles Hamilton and
Greishe Clerjuste led the Cougars with 19 points and 17 points, respectively.
Saskatchewan will move on to face the winner of the Calgary/Winnipeg quarterfinal, which the Dinos currently lead after a big 98-57 win in Game 1 on Friday.
The Cougars could return almost their entire roster next season with the exception of fifth-year forward
Kornel Tokolyi, who didn't play on Friday. They enjoyed one of their best seasons in program history this year, going 14-6 in conference play and defeating Mount Royal in a home play-in game last weekend before falling to Saskatchewan in the quarterfinals.
