Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars fall to UBC on late powerplay marker

Ireland Perrott's powerplay goal in the third period was the difference on Saturday afternoon, as the University of Regina women's hockey team fell 1-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

Perrott scored at the 8:43 mark of the third period, following a Regina hit-to-the-head penalty. The rookie forward scored her third goal of the weekend, potting a rebound off assists from Ashley McFadden and Logan Boyd.

Amelia Boughn stopped all 22 shots she faced for her third shutout of the season. Morgan Baker got the nod in net for Regina, making 41 saves in the loss.

UBC finishes the season with a 14-5-4-5 record, locked into the third spot in the Canada West standings. The Cougars end the regular season with a 9-14-2-3 record, and will await Mount Royal's result from Saturday night to determine whether they visit UBC or Saskatchewan in a Canada West quarterfinal series next weekend.

The Cougars had a number of solid scoring chances on the night, with the best coming late in the third as an Emily Middagh shot rang off the post. UBC outshot the Cougars 17-5 in the final period, making it tough on the Cougar offence to work for the equalizing goal.

With a Mount Royal loss against Lethbridge, the Cougars will finish fifth and face Saskatchewan next weekend. If Mount Royal wins, the Cougars will be back in Vancouver to take on UBC in a best-of-three series.
