The Mount Royal Cougars went 4-1 in their five matches at the University of Regina Invitational as they took first place out of six teams participating in the non-conference tournament at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Mount Royal's only loss came in a five-set setback to Alberta on Saturday night. MRU had five-set wins over Saskatchewan and Winnipeg and straight-set wins over both Manitoba and Regina.
Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, and Alberta all finished with 3-2 records, while Manitoba was 2-3 and the host Cougars went 0-5 over the three-day tournament. Regina's closest battle was against Winnipeg, as the Cougars won the third set and the fourth set against the Wesmen before falling 15-6 in the fifth and deciding frame.
COUGARS: NEXT UP
The Cougars are in action next weekend at the Unruh Realty Volleyball Challenge, a five-team non-conference tournament hosted by the University of Winnipeg. The Cougars will play both Manitoba and host Winnipeg for the second weekend in a row, and will also square off with Brandon and Lakehead.
