The University of Regina's women's volleyball team closed out the 2019-20 campaign on Saturday night with a three-set loss to the No. 6-ranked Alberta Pandas at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton.
Alberta opened the match with a convincing 25-8 win, then followed that up with 25-13 and 25-18 wins in the second and third to lock up the Pandas' ninth consecutive victory.
Kory White led Alberta with 11 kills while hitting .526 for the match. The Pandas as a team finished with a .436 hitting percentage, including .684 in the first set alone. Julia Zonneveld, Lauryn Tremblay, and Erin Corbett also registered impressive hitting numbers for Alberta. Zonneveld had nine kills and hit .444, Corbett had six kills and hit .545, and Tremblay had seven kills and a .385 hitting percentage.
Brittany Rousseaux led Regina with eight kills and seven digs while also hitting .333 for the match.
The Cougars finish the season with a 2-22 Canada West mark and will now look to next year. The returning players are expected to be made up of a pair of fifth-year players (
Britt Davis and
Emma Matheson), four fourth-year players, three third-year players, and three second-year players.
Alberta (18-6) will head into the postseason as Canada West's No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Saskatchewan in the conference quarterfinals next weekend.
