The University of Regina's women's soccer team lost to the University of Manitoba Bisons 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Bianca Cavalcanti scored her seventh goal of the season to lead the Bisons to the victory. The Bisons moved to within one point of the Cougars for second place in the Canada West East Division.
Early in the first half, the Bisons got a corner kick opportunity. Manitoba's Breyanna Johnston-Krulicki sent the ball into the box and Cavalcanti scored on a beautiful header to give the Bisons an early lead. The Bisons had seven shots at the break and the Cougars had two.
The second half turned into a defensive game for Manitoba. The consistently shut down the Cougars who were pushing hard to even the score. The Cougars had five shots and four corner kicks but failed to convert on any of them.
Manitoba goalkeeper Karina Bagi made two saves to record her second shutout of the season.
Allyson Ford made four saves in between the pipes for the Cougars.
With the loss, the Cougars end up splitting their season series against Manitoba, 2-2.
Both teams will take next weekend off for Thanksgiving before continuing league play the following weekend. The Cougars will head to Winnipeg to face the Wesmen on October 16th and 17th. Manitoba will head home to play the Huskies on October 15th and 16th.
