Cougars fall 4-1 to Calgary in Saturday matinée

Elizabeth Lang's first-period natural hat trick lifted the Calgary Dinos to a 4-1 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West game at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.

Lang opened the scoring just under three minutes into the first, then scored twice in the span of 31 seconds to give the Dinos a 3-0 lead by the midway point of the opening period.

Jordan Kulbida scored for the Cougars shortly after Lang's third goal on a nice deflection on a shot from the right point, but that would turn out to be Regina's only goal of the contest.

Calgary added one more when Alli Borrow scored early in the third period to push the lead up to three.

Gabriella Durante stopped 31 shots in the win for Calgary to help the Dinos move to 4-8-0 on the season.

The Cougars, who were 0-for-6 on the power play on Saturday, fall to 4-6-2 with the setback. They'll head into the December break in sixth place in the nine-team Canada West standings with 10 points.

Regina's next games will come on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15 against Saskatchewan. The two teams will meet in Saskatoon on the Friday before playing in Regina the following night.
