Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars finish with weekend split after road loss to Saskatchewan

The University of Regina's men's hockey team suffered an 11-3 road loss to the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night in a Canada West game at Merlis Belsher Place.

Justin Ball and Jaxan Kaluski both had hat tricks for the No. 4-ranked Huskies, who lost 7-4 to the same Cougars on Friday night in Regina despite the home side missing three of its top five scorers and its starting goaltender.

Riley Krane, Tate Coughlin, and Dylan McCabe scored for the Cougars in the setback. McCabe also helped set up Coughlin's goal, giving the first-year defenceman his first Canada West goal and first Canada West assist.

Donovan Neuls, Chantz Petruic, Connor Hobbs, Zane Franklin, and Aiden Bulych scored the other goals for Saskatchewan. Franklin collected five assists to finish with a six-point night, while Roddy Ross stopped 17 of 20 shots for the Huskies.

Curtis Meger got the start for the Cougars between the pipes with Donovan Buskey coming in following the sixth U of S goal.

The game marked just the second regulation loss in the past 10 games for the Cougars, who sit in fifth place in the Canada West standings with three weeks remaining on the conference schedule. The Cougars are two points up on sixth-place Mount Royal, and those two teams will meet next weekend in Calgary at the Flames Community Arena. Friday's game is set for 7:00 PM and Saturday's game will face off at 3:00 PM.
