Faith Reid scores 20 to lead Cougars to weekend sweep of Brandon

The University of Regina's women's basketball team defeated the Brandon University Bobcats 80-49 on Saturday evening at the Healthy Living Centre in Brandon.

Cougars fourth-year guard Faith Reid shot 6-for-13 from behind the arc, leading to a game high 20 points. First year Jade Belmore added 14 points and eight rebounds to help the Cougars leave Brandon with two wins. Bobcats guard Reetta Tulkki scored a team-high 13 points on 5-of-15 shooting.

The Cougars started hot and kept it going all night, as they outscored the Bobcats in every quarter. Brandon took a 5-2 lead early in the game but the Cougars responded with an 18-9 run to end the first quarter up 20-14.

Regina kept their foot on the gas pedal for the remainder of the game, scoring at least 16 points in the ensuing quarters. Brandon could not mount a comeback as they were held to 14 points or less in every quarter.

The Cougars were aggressive on the glass, grabbing 15 offensive boards. Belmore had three of those while Julia Vydrova and Zoe Hartmann grabbed two apiece. Fourth-year guard Kaitlyn Tonita scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Regina.

The Cougars (4-6) will take next weekend off before hosting the University of Manitoba Bisons on January 28th and 29th. The Bobcats (0-10) will head to Saskatoon to take on the Huskies next weekend.
