The University of Regina's women's hockey team suffered a 6-0 loss to Saskatchewan on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre in Regina.
Saskatchewan's win gives the Huskies a weekend split in the home-and-home series as the Cougars had taken the opening leg by a 4-1 margin in Saskatoon on Friday.
Sara Kendall scored her first two Canada West goals for the Huskies including what would turn out to be the game-winning marker early in the first period off a deflection from a Meg Dyer shot on a power play. Mallory Dyer, Kendra Zuchotzki, Abby Shirley, and Bailee Bourassa scored the others.
Colby Wilson made 12 saves to collect her second shutout in just three starts this season for the Huskies, who improve their record to 7-5-2 with the victory.
The Huskies ended up 2-for-3 on the power play as Kendall's first goal and Bourassa's tally late in the third came with the advantage. The Cougars, now 5-7-2 on the season, finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
Both teams have just six contests remaining on the 20-game Canada West schedule. The Cougars are at home next weekend against Mount Royal and play their final home games of the regular season against Manitoba (Feb. 4/5) before finishing off the slate at UBC (Feb. 18/19). Saskatchewan has Alberta on the road next weekend, MacEwan at home on the Feb. 4/5 weekend, and Manitoba away on the Feb. 11/12 weekend.
NOTES: Both teams are very much in the playoff hunt as Saskatchewan sits in fourth place in the conference standings with 16 points and the Cougars are tied with MacEwan for the sixth and final playoff berth with 12 points.
