Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars drop 2-0 decision to Mount Royal

Tianna Ko and Breanne Trotter both scored and Kaitlyn Ross had a 22-save shutout as Mount Royal took a 2-0 road victory over Regina in a Canada West women's hockey game at The Co-operators Centre in Regina.

The win is Mount Royal's third consecutive shutout victory as the Cougars took twin 1-0 victories over Saskatchewan their last time on the ice in early December. MRU, now 10-1-2 on the season, now has a four-top lead atop the Canada West standings.

Ko's goal opened the scoring late in the first period following a Tatum Amy point shot with MRU on the power play. Regina goalie Arden Kliewer made the initial save, but Ko was there to poke in the rebound for what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.

Mount Royal's power play also accounted for the only other goal of the game midway through the third. Trotter took a feed from Emma Bergesen right in front of Kliewer and notched her second of the season to put the visiting side up two.

Both teams finished with six power play opportunities during the contest, with MRU finishing 2-for-6 and Regina 0-for-6. MRU held a 24-22 advantage in shots.

The two teams will meet again at The Co-operators Centre on Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 scheduled start time. No spectators will be in attendance, but the game will again be broadcast at canadawest.tv.
