Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Power plays lift Manitoba to 2-1 win over Cougars

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's hockey team lost 2-1 to Manitoba on Friday night in Oak Bluff, Man.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Paige Hubbard opened the scoring shorthanded just seconds into the second period, rifling a shot high glove side on a breakaway courtesy of a Jenna Merk chip out of the U of R zone.
  • Manitoba replied less than two minutes later as Rachel Gottfried scored on the power play.
  • The game stayed 1-1 until early in the third period when Manitoba scored another power play goal, this time by Kylie Lesuk.
  • The Cougars outshot Manitoba 31-20, but Hubbard's goal in the second was the only one that beat Bisons goalie Kimberley Davidson.

NOTES
  • Merk now has points in all three Canada West games this year and leads the Cougars with five points.
  • Natalie Williamson got the start in net for the Cougars and stopped 18 of Manitoba's 20 shots.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will close out the two-game set with the Bisons on Saturday afternoon at Rink Training Centre in Oak Bluff. Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM (CDT).
