Women's hockey Cougars edged 3-2 by Bisons

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Manitoba on Saturday afternoon in Oak Bluff, Man.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Manitoba's Chloe Snaith scored the lone goal of the opening period six minutes into the game, then Kate Gregoire scored a power play marker just 29 seconds into the second period for the Bisons.
  • Paige Hubbard pounced on a rebound and notched her second goal of the season nine minutes into the middle frame, but Manitoba restored the two-goal cushion just over two minutes after that on a goal by Kaitlyn Chatyrbok.
  • Hannah Pennell continued her breakout season with a third-period slap shot with the Cougars on the power play.
  • The Cougars outshot Manitoba by a 14-6 margin in the final period, but weren't able to slip the equalizer past Bisons goalie Meagan Relf.

NOTES
  • Pennell now has three goals and two assists in her first four games of the 2022-23 season.
  • Jenna Merk assisted on Hubbard's goal and has a team-leading six points.
  • The Cougars are 1-2-1 through their first two weekends of the Canada West schedule.
