Game Recap: Rams Football |

Late comeback attempt falls just short as Rams lose 23-20 in Saskatoon

QUICKLY
  • A surge by the University of Regina Rams in the final minutes of the game fell just short as Saskatchewan escaped with a 23-20 victory on Saturday afternoon in a battle of Canada West's top two teams in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rams scored the game's first touchdown early in the second quarter after a 52-yard interception return by Gowrishan Aravinthan down to the Saskatchewan 2-yard line. Christian Katende punched it in on third down for his first U SPORTS touchdown, putting the Rams up 12-3.
  • Saskatchewan had the strong north wind at its back in the second quarter and took advantage with touchdowns on back-to-back possessions, giving the Huskies a 17-12 lead at halftime.
  • The Huskies added to the lead with a field goal early in the third quarter and another early in the fourth, putting them up 23-12.
  • The Rams went on a massive 16-play, 93-yard drive late in the fourth that featured four successful third-down conversions, including Noah Pelletier's one-yard plunge for a major. Pelletier then ran it in himself on the two-point convert, cutting the U of S lead to just three points.
  • Aldo Galvan's perfect onside kick was then recovered by Jaxon Ford and the Rams took over in Saskatchewan territory, but Pelletier's pass on the very next play was picked off to all but seal the win for the Huskies.

NOTES
  • Saskatchewan (6-0) clinches first place in the Canada West standings with the win, while the Rams drop to 4-2 but remain in sole possession of second place in the conference.
  • The Rams can clinch a home playoff game with a win in either of their final two games of the season.

NEXT UP
  • The Rams are back on the road next Saturday with a game at Calgary, then will finish off the regular season on Oct. 29 at home against Manitoba.
