Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Laumbach's hat trick leads Pandas past Cougars

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss to Alberta on Saturday afternoon in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring in a hurry as Kaitlyn Gilroy shovelled in a goal from in tight just three minutes on the power play. Ireland Sorestad and Shaylee Scraba got the assists on Gilroy's second of the season.
  • Payton Laumbach scored the next three goals of the game for the Pandas. She tied up the game in the final minute of the first, scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal early in the second, then added another one late in the middle frame to put Alberta up 3-1 at the second intermission.
  • Madison Willan and Taylor Kezama both scored for Alberta in the first six minutes of the third to put away the win.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars (2-5-1) have a home-and-home with provincial rival Saskatchewan coming up next weekend. They'll play the Huskies in Saskatoon on Friday night before returning to Regina to face the U of S on Saturday night (7:00) at The Co-operators Centre.
