Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars drop 5-3 road decision to Mount Royal

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team suffered a 5-3 loss to Mount Royal on Friday night in Calgary.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring early when Brennan Riddle fired a snap shot from the left faceoff dot for a power play goal.
  • Mount Royal had a big response with three unanswered goals before the first period was over, though. Spencer Moe, Michael Ladyman, and Robbie Holmes all scored to put MRU up 3-1 after one.
  • The Cougars fought back, though. Brady Pouteau tipped in a pass from Bryce Platt to get the U of R to within one, and Scott Mickoski deflected a Mike Eskra shot from the point to tie it up near the midway point of the second.
  • Blake Stevenson scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal two minutes into the third. The Cougars pulled their goalie for an extra attacker in the late going, but MRU iced the win with an empty netter.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will get another crack at Mount Royal on Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 MT/7:00 SK at Flames Community Arena in Calgary.
