Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars topped 4-1 by Mount Royal

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's hockey team was defeated 4-1 by Mount Royal on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre in Regina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sydney Benko opened the scoring with a strange one for Mount Royal 1:36 into the contest. Julianna Giacobbo tried to wrap the puck around the boards in her own zone on what should have been a safe play, but it took an absurd bounce off the boards and Benko was able to tuck home her first of the year with Cougar goalie Natalie Williamson looking the other way.
  • The Cougars tied it up later in the first when Jadyn Kushniruk deflected an Olivia Leggett blast from the point for her second goal of the season.
  • Courtney Kollman gave Mount Royal the lead with a one-timer on the power play just 29 seconds into the second, then Alex Spence made it a two-goal lead just three minutes later.
  • Mount Royal again scored an early goal in the third. Athena Hauck scored just 24 seconds into the final frame on MRU's second power play goal of the night.

NOTES
  • Mount Royal ended up with a 27-19 shot advantage over Regina.
  • MRU was 2-for-4 on the power play, while the U of R was 0-for-8.

NEXT UP
  • The two teams will finish up their weekend series on Saturday afternoon at The Co-operators Centre. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
