Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball completes weekend sweep over Saskatchewan

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team used a massive 20-2 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from Saskatchewan for a 75-66 victory on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars never trailed after going on a 10-2 run late in the first quarter, but things got interesting in the fourth.
  • Saskatchewan tied up the game with an Alexander Dewar bucket on the opening possession of the fourth, but the Cougars changed the momentum in a hurry and in a huge way.
  • The Cougars reeled off 20 of the next 22 points over the next six minutes, a run highlighted by a pair of Nick Barnard triples as well as three-pointers by both Matt Barnard and Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo.

NOTES
STANDINGS
  • The win improves Regina's conference record to 3-1. Manitoba has the early lead at 4-0 while Mount Royal, Trinity Western, and Victoria also sit at 3-1.

QUOTABLE
"Those were two hard-fought, physical battles out there this weekend so we're just happy to get out of here with two wins. I thought we got some real good contributions from some of our other guys tonight, most notably Nigel Warden who came off the bench and did an outstanding job for us." - Cougars head coach Steve Burrows

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars have next weekend off before returning to the CKHS for a pair of home games against the aforementioned Manitoba Bisons on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26.
