Belmore records triple-double in win over Saskatchewan

QUICKLY
  • Jade Belmore's triple-double lifted the University of Regina Cougars to an 85-54 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

SUPER JADE
  • It was Belmore's night. The second-year wing was simply sensational on Saturday, scorching Saskatchewan for 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while also getting credit for five steals.
  • Belmore, who was also a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point land, finished off the triple-double in the fourth quarter with her only offensive rebound of the game following a blocked Zoe Hartmann three-pointer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars outscored the U of S in all four quarters, but it was a close first half until Regina closed out the second quarter with eight straight points that ballooned their three-point lead into an 11-point advantage at halftime.
  • Regina held the U of S without a field goal for the first five minutes of the third quarter and never looked back. A 9-0 run early in the fourth sealed the win.

STANDINGS
  • Ranked No. 2 in the nation, the Cougars are now a perfect 4-0 through the first two weekends of the Canada West schedule. Fraser Valley (4-0), Trinity Western (4-0), and UBC (1-0) are the conference's other three undefeated teams.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars have next weekend off before returning to the CKHS with a pair of home games against Manitoba on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26.
