No. 1 Cougars score Friday win over Manitoba

QUICKLY
  • The No. 1-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team cruised to a 75-62 victory over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars led 18-13 after the first quarter, then had a huge second as they outscored Manitoba 28-14 in the period to take a 19-point lead into halftime.
  • Regina led by as many as 23 points early in the fourth quarter before the Bisons went on a 9-0 run to help get the eventual margin of defeat down to 13 points.

NOTES
  • Jade Belmore had a big double-double for the Cougars, finishing with a game-high 20 points and also leading all players with 14 rebounds.
  • Julia Vydrova and Cara Misskey both chipped in with 13-point efforts for the Cougars in the win.
  • Keziah Brothers and Emerson Martin both scored 13 points for Manitoba, which falls to 0-5 with the loss.

STANDINGS
  • The Cougars improve to 5-0 on the season. They're the only remaining undefeated team in Canada West play as Fraser Valley and UBC both lost on Friday night.
