Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Doucet's four-point night lifts Cougars over TWU

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team built up a three-goal lead and was able to hang on for a 5-4 home victory over Trinity Western on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring on a goal from Riley Krane, who scored from a sharp angle late in the first period.
  • Krane's goal was answered by two quick ones from Trinity Western as Josh Borynec and Mitchell Joss both scored in a span of 42 seconds to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes.
  • Regina scored four unanswered goals in the second period. The first two came courtesy of Jackson Doucet, who tied it up with a quick move from in tight six minutes into the middle frame and then put the Cougars into the lead with a power play goal off a rebound less than two minutes later. Krane gave the Cougars a two-goal cushion with his second of the night just two minutes after Doucet's second goal, and Griffin Asham-Moroz scored on a shot from the top of the right circle to give the Cougars a 5-2 advantage at the second intermission.
  • Borynec scored again for Trinity Western with a shorthanded goal off a nice feed from Kolby Johnson, and the Spartans got another from Daine DuBois just three minutes later to cut the Regina lead to 5-4.

NOTES
  • Jake Fletcher had a brilliant debut for the Cougars. The transfer from Concordia University had three assists in his first game with the U of R.
  • Doucet also had two assists, giving him a four-point night for the first time in a Cougar uniform.
  • Brennan Riddle also had a multiple-point night with assists on both Doucet goals.
  • Curtis Meger stopped 29 of TWU's 33 shots in the win.

NEXT UP
  • The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Game time is again set for 6:00 PM.
