Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's hockey completes weekend sweep over Trinity Western

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team completed a weekend home sweep over Trinity Western on Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 victory at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trinity Western got on the board first when Jarrett Penner took advantage of a turnover and buried a shot from the slot less than four minutes into the contest.
  • Regina replied almost immediately. After a three-assist outing on Friday in his first game as a Cougar, Jake Fletcher scored his first goal on a hard wrist shot from the right faceoff circle to tie it up.
  • The Cougars took the lead in the second period on a Tyler Adams shot from the high slot through traffic, but Trinity Western's Mitchell Joss answered back just over two minutes later and the teams went into the second intermission tied 2-2.
  • Brady Pouteau scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal off a one-timer from a beautiful cross-ice pass courtesy of Jayden Davis. Tyler Heidt added an insurance marker on the power play with just over two minutes left to seal the win for the Cougars.

NOTES
  • After a four-point night last night, Jackson Doucet assisted on the Adams and Pouteau goals to finish with six points for the weekend.
  • Adam Evanoff made 25 saves to secure the second Canada West victory of his career.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will play a rare Tuesday game against the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, then will be right back at home at The Co-operators Centre next Friday and Saturday for two games against UBC.
