Cougars deal Manitoba first Canada West loss

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina dealt the Manitoba Bisons their first loss of the Canada West schedule as the Cougars took an 81-73 win on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a low-scoring first quarter, the offences erupted in the second as the two teams scored a total of 55 points in the period. Manitoba went into halftime with a 41-38 advantage.
  • The Cougars opened the second half on a 13-3 run to take the lead for good. Eight straight Regina points pushed the lead to 14 early in the fourth quarter and though the Bisons battled back to make it a four-point game midway through the final period, the Cougars were able to rebuild some breathing room and held off Manitoba down the stretch for the win.
