Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars complete weekend sweep over Brandon

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's basketball team was challenged early, but eventually pulled away from Brandon for a 66-41 victory on Saturday night to register their second win in as many nights over the Bobcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars jumped out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter, but Brandon kept it close in the second and the U of R took that same eight-point lead into halftime.
  • Brandon got to within five points at one point in the third quarter after a three-pointer and a layup by Piper Ingalls on consecutive possessions, but the Cougars reeled off an 11-2 run that was highlighted by three-pointers from both Dayna Pearce and Zoe Hartmann.
  • The Cougars put the game away with 11 consecutive points early in the fourth quarter including back-to-back triples by Madeleine Tell and Jade Belmore.

NOTES
  • Rachel Vanderhooft had career highs in both points (11) and rebounds (11) for her first Canada West double-double.
  • Tell hit three triples and finished with a game-high 15 points.
  • Pearce had 10 points and fell just one rebound short of a double-double.
  • Jade Belmore collected eight points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will entertain provincial rival Saskatchewan next Friday and Saturday with a 6:00 PM tip-off both nights at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. Both teams will enter the weekend with 2-0 conference records.
