Cougars push UBC to overtime, but lose in extra session

QUICKLY
  • Jake Lee's power play goal gave the UBC Thunderbirds a 3-2 overtime win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Matt Culling opened the scoring for the Cougars on a power play on a wrist shot from the left circle with five minutes to go in the opening period.
  • UBC took the lead with a pair of goals in the second. Scott Atkinson scored four minutes into the middle frame and Ethan McIndoe added a power play goal with five minutes to go in the period.
  • The Cougars tied it up on a beautiful individual effort from Tyler Adams just past the midway point of the third period. Adams took the puck at his own blue line, stickhandled through three UBC players, and sniped his fourth of the season.
  • UBC scored on the power play just a minute and a half into overtime. Lee wired a shot off the left post and in for the winner.

NOTES
  • Adam Evanoff got the start for the Cougars and made 25 saves.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will now break for just over a month. Their next Canada West games will be on Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 on the road at Manitoba.
