Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars swept in three by Saskatchewan

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team returned from a 19-day layoff on Friday but suffered a 3-0 loss to the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday night in Saskatoon.

The Huskies edged Regina by a 25-23 margin in the first set, then took 25-16 and 25-20 wins in the second and third to put away the match and clinch first place in Canada West's East Division.

Emily Koshinsky led Saskatchewan (11-2) with a big 15-kill, 17-dig performance as she led all players in both categories. Caet McCorkell added 10 kills for the Huskies, while Averie Allard had 34 assists and Jessica Andjelic had 13 digs.

Jessica Lerminiaux and Katie House both had nine kills to lead the Cougars offensively, while libero Sierra Parris-Kruger had a team-leading 16 assists. Setter Cassadi Klapak finished with 20 assists and 10 digs.

The Cougars (4-7) will get another crack at Saskatchewan on Saturday night as they'll try to secure a split against the Huskies just as they did three weekends ago in Regina. A win for the Cougars would almost certainly lock up a postseason berth for the U of R.
